What is bodywork?

Bodywork is hands-on therapeutic work aimed at the muscular and connective tissue system. Unlike a one-off treatment for a specific injury, bodywork tends to work best as an ongoing part of a horse's care, much the way a rider might see a massage therapist regularly, not only when something's gone wrong.

Tension accumulates through repetitive work, old injuries, conformation, or simply the compensations a horse makes without anyone noticing. Bodywork is what finds that tension and gives the body a chance to properly release it, rather than let it settle in as habit.

The muscles are the foundation of how the horse moves, responds, behaves and performs.

Cornerstone = foundation. A cornerstone is the very first stone laid when you're building something, and every other stone gets squared against it. For a horse, you can think of the muscle as the foundation for movement, and I want to help your horse move the best. Techniques I use (but not limited to) include:

  • Myofascial Release (MFR)

  • Equine Massage

  • Gait Evaluation

I'm Lisa Bollinger, an equine bodyworker based in the Southern Highlands. I’ve worked with horses my whole life first in rural central Canada and now in Australia. I work with horses of every discipline and every age to restore movement and comfort, from high performance athletes & pony club horses to ageing horses entering retirement.

I’m really passionate about being hyper-attentive to each individual horse and how they move. No two horses are the same, and so they all require different treatment depending on their needs.
